Novel Detailed Summary in English
“Rukhdaad” depicts the journey of Sila, an heiress left emotionally vulnerable after the loss of her parents and brother. Fearful of being left alone, she allows her greedy uncle and aunt to move into her house and sign over millions of her inheritance. Despite her financial wealth, Sila is deeply insecure and constantly seeks validation from those around her.
Her primary sounding board is her elder step-sister, Bajjou, a pragmatic, low-income woman who lives by strict self-reliance. Bajjou criticizes Sila’s habit of buying affection and warns her about non-mahram relationships and emotional exploitation, urging her to develop self-love. Meanwhile, Sila struggles in her five-year relationship with Mukhtar. When Mukhtar returns expensive gifts Sila gave him, Sila wrongly assumes he is ending the relationship because he is tired of her wealth disparity.
This misunderstanding leads Sila to a breaking point. Realizing that her fear of isolation has made her a “blank check” for her relatives, she makes a bold decision. She informs her uncle and aunt that she is selling the house, giving her mother’s share to Bajjou, and cutting off their financial supply. بجو نے سرسری سی نظر اس پر ڈالی۔
“تم جان کر کیا کرو گی؟”
بجو جانتی تھیں وہ جان کر کیا کرے گی، مگر کیا ضروری تھا ہر بار وہ کچھ نہ کچھ غلط کرے اور پھر پچھتائے۔
“میں اُس راستے پر چلوں گی، مجھے صبر نے بہت تھکا دیا ہے۔”
آخر میں اُس کے الفاظ بڑبڑاہٹ میں بدل گئے، جو بجو کو بھی بمشکل سنائی دی ـ
“تو کس نے کہا بے وجہ صبر کرو؟ وہ قربانیاں دو جن کو کوئی کبھی بھی نہیں سراہے گا؟ اُن راستوں پر چلو جن کی منزل تاریکی ہے؟ کس نے کہا تھا؟”
کہہ کر بجو نے منہ سے قمیض کا دھاگا توڑا۔ پھٹی ہوئی قمیض اب سِل چکی تھی۔
ایک نظر اسے دیکھا، جو ہر روز کوئی نیا زخم ڈھونڈ لاتی تھی۔
آخر وہ اُس کے کس کس زخم کی سلائی کرتیں؟ تھوڑی محبت انسان کو خود سے بھی ہونی چاہیے۔
“اگر میں یہ سب نہ کروں تو میں تنہا رہ جاؤں گی، کوئی مجھ سے بات بھی نہیں کرے گا اور۔۔۔”
بات ادھوری چھوڑ کر وہ ہچکیوں کے ساتھ رونا شروع ہو گئی۔
بجو کو نئی نسل کی جذباتیت سے سخت چِڑ تھی۔
نہ وہ بات بے بات رونے کی عادی تھیں، نہ انہیں بات بے بات رونے والے پسند تھے۔
انہوں نے باقی کپڑوں کو ترتیب دینا شروع کر دیا، ساتھ ساتھ دیکھتی بھی گئیں، کہیں کوئی کپڑا پھٹا ہوا تو نہیں۔
اور اسے اس امید پر رونے دیا کہ شاید اُس کے آنسوؤں کے ذخیرے میں کچھ کمی آ جائے، مگر بے سود! رونے کے بجائے رونے کی شدت میں اضافہ ہو گیا تو انہیں چارو ناچار مزید بولنا پڑا۔
“اب کون سا تم محفلوں میں بیٹھی ہو؟ بات تو اب بھی بے مطلب کوئی نہیں کرتا تم سے۔ تمہاری یہ حالت تم نے خود کی ہے۔ جو خود سے محبت نہیں کرتا، دنیا اسے دس ہاتھوں سے لوٹتی ہے، جب تک کہ ڈھانچہ نہ بنا دے۔”
سِلا نے رونا چھوڑ کر آنکھیں خلا میں ٹکا لیں۔
