Novel Detailed Summary in English
“Diyar-e-Ghair Mein Dil” (Heart in a Foreign Land), penned by Laiba Hussain, is an emotionally gripping and suspenseful Urdu novel set against the picturesque backdrop of Peshawar and the bustling streets of London. The story opens at the prosperous Hamdani Villa in Peshawar, home to the influential businessman Hamdani Sahib, his graceful wife Naznin Begum, their sensible elder daughter Muskan, and the lively younger daughter Zirmsh, along with Hashim (the captain’s son and Hamdani’s nephew). Underneath the family’s cheerful exterior lie deep-seated past traumas, specifically involving a mysterious woman named Zonerisha Chachi, whose past actions shattered the family.
Muskan, who has recently won a prestigious scholarship to a top university in London, is preparing for her departure alongside her close friend Urwa. However, subtle tensions simmer in the household: Hashim harbors deep, unspoken feelings for Muskan but suppresses them due to gratitude and her quiet nature, while constantly bickering with the spirited Zirmsh.
Following a tearful farewell at Bacha Khan International Airport, Muskan and Urwa arrive safely in London. But the safety of distance is quickly shattered when Muskan unpacks her luggage and finds a chilling, red-inked note inside a mysterious envelope: “The winds of Peshawar have brought you all the way to London, Muskan Hamdani! From today onwards, your very breaths are under my control!” Glancing out the balcony, she spots a tall, ominous shadow standing under a streetlamp, staring directly at her room before vanishing into the fog. As Muskan tries to settle into her new academic life and navigates deep theological conversations with Urwa about faith and fear, dark secrets from Peshawar begin to catch up with her in a foreign land.

Short Scene From Novel
