“عدیل، اب میں بیٹنگ کروں گا!” عتشام نے جوش سے کہا، ہاتھ میں لکڑی کی چھڑی تھامے ہوئے۔
عدیل نے ناک سکوڑی، “لیکن تم ہر بار آؤٹ ہو جاتے ہو، ٹھیک سے کھیلتے نہیں۔”
“اس بار نہیں! میں نے کل بھی پریکٹس کی تھی۔ دیکھنا، چھکا ماروں گا۔”
عدیل نے گیند پھینکی، اور عتشام نے پوری طاقت سے چھڑی گھمائی۔ بدقسمتی سے چھڑی کا کنارہ عدیل کے ماتھے پر جا لگا۔ لمحے بھر میں ہر چیز رُک سی گئی۔
عدیل چیخا، “آاااہ!” اور زمین پر گر گیا۔ اس کے ماتھے سے خون ٹپکنے لگا۔
“عدیل! مجھے معاف کر دو، غلطی سے لگ گئی!” عتشام گھبرا کر اُس کے پاس دوڑا۔
اندر سے دروازہ کھلا اور ان کے والد تیز قدموں سے باہر آئے۔
“یہ کیا کیا تم نے؟ عدیل! خون؟ یہ سب تمھاری وجہ سے ہوا ہے، نالائق لڑکے!”
عتشام نے ہاتھ جوڑ لیے، “ابو، میں نے جان بوجھ کر نہیں کیا، سچ میں!”
ایک زور دار تھپڑ اس کے گال پر پڑا۔ وہ لڑکھڑایا، آنکھوں میں آنسو بھر آئے۔
“ہمیشہ مصیبت! تمھیں عقل کب آئے گی؟ عدیل کو کچھ ہو گیا تو؟ اللہ نہ کرے، لیکن تم جیسے بچوں کو سنبھالنا ہی سب سے بڑا مسئلہ ہے۔”
عتشام خاموش کھڑا رہا۔ اس کا دل چاہا زمین پھٹے اور وہ اُس میں سما جائے۔ عدیل کو اندر لے جایا گیا، اور عتشام وہیں صحن کے ایک کونے میں بیٹھا رہا، آنکھیں نم، دل بجھا ہوا۔
شام کو جب ماں عدیل کے زخم پر مرہم لگا رہی تھی، عتشام خاموشی سے دروازے کے پاس کھڑا سب کچھ دیکھ رہا تھا۔
ماں نے ایک نظر اُسے دیکھا اور کہا، “کتنی بار کہا ہے عدیل کے قریب مت جایا کرو، تمھاری وجہ سے ہمیشہ کچھ نہ کچھ ہوتا ہے۔”
عتشام نے کچھ نہیں کہا۔ وہ صرف سات سال کا تھا، لیکن اُس دن اُس نے کچھ سیکھ لیا تھا: اس گھر میں عدیل کا ہر درد بھی قیمتی ہے، اور عتشام کا ہر جذبہ بھی بے قیمت۔
