پھر دروازے کے پیچھے سے کوئی ہنسنے لگا۔
زور سے نہیں۔
دیوانہ وار بھی نہیں۔
وہ ایک ماں کی طرح ہنس رہی تھی جو سوئے ہوئے بچے کو جگانے سے بچنے کے لیے تھکی ہوئی نرمی سے ہنس رہی ہو۔
اور پھر وہ بولی۔
“تم نے مجھے اس نام سے کیوں پکارا؟”

پیتل کا ہینڈل آہستہ آہستہ گھومنے لگا۔

ناول “تیرھویں دستک” ایک پراسرار، نفسیاتی اور ہولناک کہانی ہے جو مہر آباد کے ویران علاقے میں واقع دو سو سال پرانی حویلی کے گرد گھومتی ہے۔ کہانی کی مرکزی کردار زویا ہے جو اپنی دادی کی وفات کے بعد اس پرانی حویلی میں رہنے آتی ہے۔ حویلی کا ماحول شروع ہی سے خوفناک ہے جہاں تمام گھڑیاں ایک ہی وقت یعنی 3:17 پر رکی ہوئی ہیں اور حویلی کی ملازمہ سکینہ اسے تین سخت اصول بتاتی ہے، جن میں سب سے اہم یہ ہے کہ “تیرہویں دستک کے بعد کبھی دروازہ مت کھولنا۔”
