حارث نے اثبات میں سر ہلایا۔ “چھتن والی حویلی۔۔۔ گاؤں والے جس کا نام لیتے ہوئے بھی کانپ جاتے ہیں۔ خوف ان کی آنکھوں سے چھلکنے لگتا ہے اور ڈر ان کی رگوں میں بہنے لگتا ہے ۔” اس کے ہونٹوں پر طنزیہ مسکراہٹ ابھری جیسے وہ گاؤں والوں کی بزدلی کا تمسخر اڑا رہا ہو ۔
گاڑی ایک جھٹکے کے ساتھ رکی۔ ڈرائیور جو گاؤں کا رہنے والا تھا، ان دونوں کو گھورتے ہوئے بولا:
“صاحب جی، میرا مشورہ ہے کہ رات ہونے سے پہلے ہی واپس چلے جائیے۔ وہاں اندھیرا ہوتے ہی سایے نکل آتے ہیں۔ وہاں جانا آپ کے لیے خطرناک ثابت ہو سکتا ہے ۔”
