In the realm of modern Urdu fiction, stories that explore spiritual dilemmas and emotional awakenings leave a lasting impact on readers. “Mustajab”, written by the emerging author Shehzeen Zulqarnain, is a deeply emotional and spiritually enriching story (Afsana). It addresses one of the most common internal conflicts faced by believers: Why does God sometimes say ‘No’ to our most desperate prayers?

Through a realistic contemporary narrative, Mustajab contrasts human obsession with Divine wisdom, reminding readers that what we desire is not always what is good for us.

The narrative begins on a serene, rainy night during the hours of Tahajjud (the late-night voluntary prayer). The protagonist, Elya, is sitting on her prayer mat in tears. She is desperately pleading with Allah to unite her with the man she loves, Zamen. Elya believes that because she prays consistently and seeks him with a sincere heart, Allah will boundlessly alter fate in her favor.

However, Elya’s devotion is clouded by an unhealthy attachment to a non-mahram (prohibited relationship). She fails to recognize that true love brings honor and respect, rather than secret chats and emotional vulnerabilities.

The turning point of the story occurs at a newly opened local café. Elya, accompanied by her loyal friend Neha, visits the café only to witness a heartbreaking scene. Zamen is sitting with another woman, gently putting a bracelet on her wrist with the same charm he once offered to Elya.

Overcome with shock and betrayal, Elya confronts Zamen in public. Instead of showing remorse, Zamen acts cold and dismissive. He denies knowing her, insults her mental sanity in front of the café manager, and proudly admits his predatory nature:

“Using girls like you and throwing them away is my daily routine. I’ve done it with thousands, and I will continue to do so.”

This harsh encounter leaves Elya completely devastated. Her world crumbles, not just because of the betrayal of a lover, but because her deep-seated expectation of her prayer being answered was shattered.

1. Elya – The Emotional Seeker

Elya represents the naive human spirit that misinterprets spiritual devotion as a tool to get worldly desires. Her journey moves from desperate longing to heartbreak, complaints, and ultimately, spiritual submission and healing.

2. Zamen – The Deceitful Antagonist

Zamen reflects toxic relationships built on manipulation and false promises. He highlights the dangers of getting emotionally attached to people who lack moral integrity and respect.

3. Neha – The Voice of Reason and Faith

Neha plays a crucial role as the true friend. She does not merely comfort Elya; she corrects her theology. Neha gently guides Elya away from resentment toward Allah and helps her understand the deeper philosophy of prayer (Dua).

The story highlights that humans evaluate choices based on immediate emotional desire, whereas the Almighty evaluates based on eternal protection and outcome.

2. The Trap of Unlawful Attachment

Mustajab sheds light on contemporary relationship dynamics among youth. It illustrates how romanticizing unlawful relationships leads to emotional distress and spiritual distance from God.

3. Healing Through Sacred Words (Ruqyah)

Instead of allowing Elya to drown in self-pity, Neha introduces her to spiritual remedy—listening to Ruqyah Shariah and Quranic recitations. The sound of Divine words acts as a catalyst for emotional soothing, proving that true peace comes from aligning one’s heart with Divine will.

God’s Silence is Not Rejection: When Allah withholds something from you, He is shielding you from harm you cannot foresee.

Gratitude in Denial: Believers should be as grateful for unopened doors as they are for opened ones.

ہر دعا ویسی قبول کیوں نہیں ہوتی جیسی ہم چاہتے ہیں؟ ایک ٹوٹے ہوئے دل، اللہ سے شکوے، اور حکمتِ الٰہی کو سمجھنے کے سفر کی کہانی، جہاں قبولیت کا مفہوم بدل جاتا ہے اور “مستجاب” ایک نئے معنی اختیار کر لیتا ہے۔

“مستجاب” شہزین ذوالقرنین کا لکھا ہوا ایک انتہائی اصلاحی، جذباتی اور روحانی افسانہ ہے جو انسان اور اس کے خالق کے درمیان پائے جانے والے حساس رشتے پر روشنی ڈالتا ہے۔ اکثر انسان اپنی پسندیدہ چیز یا شخص کو حاصل کرنے کے لیے راتوں کو رو رو کر دعائیں مانگتا ہے، اور جب وہ دعا اس کی مرضی کے مطابق قبول نہیں ہوتی تو وہ ناشکری، مایوسی اور الٰہی شکوؤں کا شکار ہو جاتا ہے۔

یہ افسانہ اسی ذہنی اور روحانی کشمکش کے گرد گھومتا ہے۔ کہانی کی مرکزی کردار “ایلیاہ” اپنی محبّت (ضامن) کو حاصل کرنے کے لیے ہر تہجد اور فرض نماز میں گڑگڑا کر دعا مانگتی ہے، لیکن قدرت کا فیصلہ اس کی سوچ سے مختلف ہوتا ہے۔ افسانہ یہ سبق دیتا ہے کہ اللہ تعالیٰ اپنے بندے کو اس کی خواہش سے زیادہ اس کی خیر اور تحفظ عطا کرتا ہے۔ قرآن و حدیث کی روشنی میں لکھا گیا یہ افسانہ قاری کو یہ سمجھاتا ہے کہ ہر رد ہونے والی دعا کے پیچھے اللہ کی کوئی عظیم مصلحت اور بندے کی بہتری چھپی ہوتی ہے۔

“تو ہم کچھ کریں گے تھوڑی…… ہم تو بس گھومنے جا رہے ہیں۔ بی پوزیٹو نیہا” ایلیاہ کو جیسے یہ بات بالکل بھی پسند نہ آئی ہو۔

“اب میں کیا کہہ سکتی ہوں جب تم سننے کو تیار ہی نہیں ہو”کہہ کر نیہا نے لب سی لیے۔

“یہ پرسوں جو نیا کیفے کھلا تھا نا….ہم یونی کے بعد وہیں چلیں گے” ایلیاہ نے کیفے کا نام لیا۔ نیہا نے سن کر محض سر ہلا دیا۔
