“Hajar-e-Aswad” by Jannat Asif tells a gripping story of tragedy, retribution, and ultimate redemption. Shehrin, a dark-complexioned woman, faces daily verbal abuse from her handsome husband, Saqlein, who constantly despises her appearance. Driven to madness by his cruel words, she takes revenge by abandoning their eight-month-old son at a Karachi orphanage and throwing herself in front of a speeding bus. A heartbroken Saqlein spends months searching for his son in vain before moving to Malaysia, condemned to a life of perpetual grief.
Meanwhile, in Karachi, Aswad and his wife Zaha endure the painful stigma of childlessness for seven years. Constantly taunted by society and Aswad’s dismissive family, they decide to adopt a child to fill the void in their lives. Visiting the same Karachi orphanage, Zaha’s heart aches for an infant chewing on a piece of dry bread on a cold floor—unaware that he is Shehrin’s abandoned baby. Overcoming opposition from Aswad’s mother, they adopt the boy and name him Ka’ab Aswad. کوئی آئینہ بھی عورت کے چہرے کو بد صورت دکھاۓ تو وہ اس آئینے میں خود کو دیکھنا چھوڑ دیتی ہے۔
وہ تو اسکا شوہر تھا جو ہر روز اسکو وہ عکس دکھاتا تھا جو اسکے شوہر کی آنکھوں میں گرد کی طرح چبھتا تھا۔وہ بد صورت تو نہ تھی مگر زیادہ حسین بھی نہیں تھی۔

“حجر اسود” جنت آصف کی تحریر کردہ ایک بے حد جذباتی اور سبق آموز کہانی ہے۔ کہانی کا پہلا رخ شہرین کی زندگی پر مبنی ہے، جسے اس کا شوہر سقلین سانولی رنگت اور بدصورتی کے طعنے دیتا ہے۔ شوہر کی روز مرہ کی تذلیل سے تنگ آ کر شہرین انتقام کے طور پر اپنے آٹھ ماہ کے بیٹے کو کراچی کے ایک یتیم خانے میں چھوڑ آتی ہے اور خود بس کے آگے آ کر خودکشی کر لیتی ہے۔ سقلین بیٹے کی جدائی میں تا عمر تڑپنے کے لیے تنہا رہ جاتا ہے۔
کہانی کا دوسرا رخ اسود اور اس کی بیوی زاہا کا ہے جو شادی کے سات سال بعد بھی بے اولاد ہیں اور معاشرے کے تلخ طعنوں سے تنگ آ چکے ہیں۔ اپنی سونی زندگی کو آباد کرنے کے لیے وہ ایک بچہ گود لینے کا فیصلہ کرتے ہیں۔ وہ کراچی کے اسی یتیم خانے پہنچتے ہیں جہاں زاہا کی نظر اسی بے بس بچے پر پڑتی ہے۔ تمام خاندانی مخالفتوں کے باوجود اسود اور زاہا اس بچے کو گود لے لیتے ہیں اور اس کا نام “کعب اسود” رکھتے ہیں۔ کہانی کا اختتام اس بات پر ہوتا ہے کہ بے اولادی کے درد سے گزرنے والے فرشتہ صفت لوگ کس طرح ایک لاوارث بچے کی کفالت کر کے اسے سچی محبت اور چھت فراہم کرتے ہیں۔
