نوجوان کی مسکراہٹ گہری ہو گئی۔ اس نے میرے قریب آتے ہوئے سرگوشی کی، “بنو مت، مسکرا مسکرا کر شکار پھنسا رہی ہو۔ اوپر سے انداز بھی دکھاتی ہو۔ کم آن، میرے ساتھ آؤ، معاملہ طے کر لیتے ہیں۔”
زمانے کی بےحسی پر میرا دل پھوٹ پھوٹ کر رو دیا۔ قبل اس کے کہ میری بےبسی آنسوؤں کی شکل اختیار کرتی اور میں میدان ہار دیتی،
نوجوان نے بےباکی اور بےشرمی کا اعلیٰ مظاہرہ کیا۔اور میرا ہاتھ پکڑ کر بولا، “ٹیکسی!، ٹیکسی کر لیتے ہیں۔”
اس کے لہجے نے وہ کام نہیں کیا تھا جو اس کے اوباش جملے نے کر دیا۔ دوسرے لمحے وہ اپنا گال پکڑے، سرخ چہرہ لیے مجھے گھور رہا تھا۔
چٹاخ! کی آواز تمام حاضرین نے سنی تھی، اور اب وہ تعجب سے مجھے اور نوجوان کو دیکھ رہے تھے۔
میں سر سے پیر تک لرز رہی تھی، پھر بھی میں نے اپنے منتشر حواس مجتمع کیے اور پاس سے گزرتی ٹیکسی کو روک کر اس میں بیٹھ گئی۔
“کسی اور کو ٹائم دیا ہے تو پہلے بتا دیتی، گھٹیا!” نوجوان باآوازِ بلند چلایا، مگر میں نے اس پر کوئی توجہ نہ دی۔
“تم… تم کون ہو؟”
“دردانہ۔”
“ارے بابا! کب سے کھڑی ہو؟ بیٹھی کیوں نہیں؟” اُس نے مجھ پر گہری نظر ڈالتے ہوئے پان کی پڑیا کھولی اور پان منہ میں رکھ لیا۔
“کیسٹ ختم ہونے کا انتظار کر رہی تھی۔” میں تکلف سے سمٹ کر کرسی پر بیٹھ گئی۔
“کمال کر دیا تم نے!” خیر علی بھائی نے قہقہہ لگا کر میز پر ہاتھ مارا۔ “اگر دوسرا کیسٹ آن ہو جاتا تو تم پھر بھی کھڑی رہتیں؟”
“جی۔” میں نے تھوک نگل کر کہا۔
“ارے بابا! اپنے دفتر میں یہ نہیں چلتا۔ یہ خیر علی بھائی کا دفتر ہے، کسی بیوروکریٹ کا دربار نہیں۔ یہاں سب برابر ہیں۔ بولو، کیسے آنا ہوا؟”
اُنکی آواز میں نرمی اور پیار کوٹ کوٹ کر بھرا ہوا تھا۔ میرا خوف زائل ہو رہا تھا۔
“نوکری تلاش کر رہی ہوں۔ مل جائے گی آپ کے ہاں؟”
“ہُوں…” اُنہوں نے گہرا سانس لیا اور مجھے غور سے دیکھا۔ وہ کچھ سوچ رہے تھے۔
“کیا کام آتا ہے؟”
“کچھ نہیں۔” میں نے بےدھڑک جواب دیا۔
“ارے بابا! کچھ نہ کرنے کے پیسے تو صرف سرکاری ملازمت میں ملتے ہیں۔”
“ہوسکتا ہے، مگر میں نے یہ کہا ہے کہ مجھے کچھ نہیں آتا، یہ نہیں کہا کہ میں کچھ نہیں کروں گی۔” میں نے اعتماد سے مسکرا کر کہا۔
