ثناء اعجاز کا قلمبند کردہ ناول “امیدِ سحر” ایک ایسے میاں بیوی کی جذباتی اور نفسیاتی کشمکش کی کہانی ہے جو شادی کے آٹھ سال گزر جانے کے باوجود اولاد کی نعمت سے محروم ہیں۔ کہانی کا آغاز ایک خوشگوار خاندانی تقریب (سالگرہ) سے ہوتا ہے، جہاں مرکزی کردار، روحاب اور زریان، اپنی خوبصورت اور محبت کرنے والی جوڑی کے باعث سب کی توجہ کا مرکز بنتے ہیں۔ تاہم، اس بظاہر پرسکون اور محبت بھرے رشتے کے پیچھے بے اولادی کا وہ گہرا دکھ چھپا ہے، جسے معاشرہ اور خاندان بار بار کچوکے لگا کر یاد دلاتا ہے۔

رُوحاب بہت معصوم اور سادہ سی ہے لوگ اُس کا بہت جلد فائدہ اُٹھا لیتے ہیں , زَریاب اپنی جگہ سے اُٹھ کھڑا ہوا۔
اسی لیے میں اُسے چالاک اور سازشی لوگوں سے بچا کر اپنے پاس رکھنا چاہتا ہوں ,
مگر زَریاب اب حالات ایسے نہیں رہے , علی بھی اُس کے ساتھ کھڑا ہو گیا۔
میں حالات سے لڑ لوں گا اور اپنی بیوی کی ہر غلطی کو سب سے چھپا کر اُسے معاف کر کے تاحیات اپنے ساتھ رکھوں گا, زَریاب جذباتی ہو گیا۔
اچھا جب تم نے خود رُوحاب کو بابا جی کے پاس جاتے دیکھ لیا تھا , علی نے اُس کی طرف دیکھا پھر اُس وقت یہ اقرار کر لیتے کہ وہ یہ سب میری مرضی سے کر رہی ہے ۔
علی میں ایسا ہی بولنے والا تھا مگر وہ آئرہ جو مجھ سے پہلے ہی سارا سچ جانتی تھی بول پڑی ۔ زَریاب نے غصے سے میز کو ہلکی سی ٹھوکر ماری۔
تو مجھے خاموش رہنا ہی مناسب لگا۔
وہ تمھاری خالہ کی بیٹی آئرہ جس سے آنٹی تمھاری شادی کروانا چاہتی ہیں؟ علی نے سوالیہ نظروں سے اُسے دیکھا ۔
ہاں وہی مصیبت اُس نے دانت پیس لیے ۔
وہ تو مجھے بہت تیز لگتی ہے , علی نے سامنے دیوار پر لگی بڑی سی گھڑی کی طرف دیکھا۔
ہاں بہت , زَریاب کی پریشانی اُس کے چہرے پر واضح تھی ۔
زَریاب یار فکر نہ کر کوئی حل ڈھونڈتے ہیں , علی نے اُسے کندھوں سے پکڑ کر صوفے پر بٹھایا اور سامنے میز پر رکھا جوس کا گلاس اُس کی طرف بڑھا دیا۔
کچھ دیر پھر خاموشی چھائی رہی۔
دیکھو یار میں تمھیں وہی مشورہ دوں گا جو اس ساری صورتِ حال کو دیکھتے ہوئے میرے ذہن میں آ رہا ہے, علی نے اپنے ساتھ بیٹھے زَریاب کی طرف دیکھا۔
چند لمحوں کی خاموشی کے بعد علی پھر گویا ہوا
یار سب کو پتا ہے کہ رُوحاب بھابھی سے بڑھ کر تمھارے لیے کچھ نہیں ,
علی نے اُس کے کندھے پر ہاتھ رکھا , لیکن اب اپنی ماں کی خوشی اور اپنی نسل آگے بڑھانے کا بھی کچھ سوچو ۔
زَریاب نے اُس کی طرف دیکھا مگر کچھ نہ کہا۔
تمھارا کوئی اور بہن بھائی ہوتا اُن کی اولاد ہوتی تو پھر تمھاری دوسری شادی اور آنٹی کی دادی بننے کی خواہش ادھوری نہ رہتی , علی نے ہمدردی سے زَریاب کا ہاتھ پکڑا۔
مگر اب تمھارے پاس دوسری شادی کے علاوہ کوئی دوسرا راستہ نہیں اس لیے اپنے بیچ کی لڑائی ختم کر کے صلاح مشورے سے یہ کڑوا گھونٹ بھر لو۔
